Youth fined for drug possession

Approximately $12,000 in fines was handed down at the District āCā Magistrate’s Court Tuesday to individuals who were found to be guilty of the charges which were brought against them. A Bath Village juvenile was convicted and fined $800 in four months or serve a term of three months imprisonment for possession of a controlled drug, cannabis. The offence was committed at 26 May at Bath Village. Dwayne Matthew of Cades Bay was fined $1,500 to be paid within three months or he is to serve three months imprisonment for possession of a controlled drug, cannabis. The offence took place on 7 March at Grove Park. Prospect resident Franchette Davis was fined $7,000 to be paid in six months or he will serve a term of one year imprisonment for having in his possession a quantity of cannabis and $5,000 in six months or one year imprisonment for the cultivation of cannabis. The offences were committed on 31 May at Prospect. Novel Braithwaite of Hard Times, Gingerland was fined $800 in three months or three months imprisonment for the offence of larceny of a Johnny Walker Black Label committed on 12 June at Best Buy Supermarket, Charlestown. Kimoy Powell of Bath Village was fined $1,500 to be paid in six months or he will serve six months imprisonment for the possession of cannabis. The offence took place on 19 June at Government Road. Leroy Richards of Stoney Grove was fined $250 to be paid in six months or he is to serve one month imprisonment for driving a motor cycle without the appropriate headgear. The offence was committed 21 April at Main Street, Charlestown. He was also convicted and fined $250 for driving a motorcycle when it was not registered. That offence was committed on 23 March at Main Street, Charlestown. He was fined another $500 each, upon conviction of driving a motorcycle when not covered by insurance and driving without a licence. The sums are to be paid within six months or a one month custodial sentence would be imposed. |
