Summit of NATO’s lame ducks in Riga

A NATO summit took place last week in Riga at which 26 presidents and prime ministers had to make decisions on the further destiny of the alliance and its 32-thousand contingent, dislocated in Afghanistan to carry out the mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). According to official reports, around 5 thousand guests from 26 NATO member states, as well as numerous political scientists, experts, and reporters, covering this event participated in the summit and at the events accompanying it (public political forums, international conferences). At the same time the Riga summit can be called a summit of lame ducks. This expression can be explained by the fact that the famous and influential politicians, who gathered in Riga are actually about to finish their professional careers de facto.
