Senate Likely to Back Drug Reimportation

Who are you going to sue if you are taking an imported medication and have side effects that are serious? The reason that US companies charge so much is due to the fact that this country is sue crazy. If you add up all of the suits due to Vioxx alone, plus the time and money spent on research, reformulation, and testing, plus the money spent on reintroduction, it is a little steep. Foreign companies on the other hand can copy and market without jumping through the hoops. The import of offshore meds could be hurting you, not helping.

If the safety of drugs imported through Canadian pharmacies is such an important issue, where are all the dead Canadians? Youd think the streets of Ottawa and Montreal whould be lined with bodies. But of course safety is just an excuse thrown out by PhARMA. Disgusted former Republican

Why is it that we can allow the import of foodstuff - for animals that ends up in human food - yet we cant allow the importation of less expensive drugs that will be inspected rigorously. DUH! The Rx Lobby is gonna have to step up their incentives to Congress.

I and my wife received our meds from Canada for several years prior to Part D. Never a problem and at a cost 40-60 below local prices. Since signing up for part D after paying deductions, co-pay and such my annual med cost is about what it was from Canada. It seems to me that we have better use of the billions spent on Part D if allowed the re importation of drugs. We all know why this is unlikely to happen.

If the quality of US drugs varies that much that we can not import them from Canada, the FDA is not subscribing to either international agreements or ISO. If the free market prevailed and Medicare could negotiate prices directly with Manufactures then the need to import would be lessened. Ron Berglund, FACHE, FelASQ, MPH AIAG Healthcare taskforce

To tkrotcho:Easy solution for you regarding the issue of supporting the Republican Party:Become a Democrat. The Democrats may also have to be scrutinized carefully, but so far there hasn*t been any as deceptive, maliscious and bitter as any Republican candidate, particularly presidential.

Hey, Folks, aside from the Bush administration potentially vetoing this Pharmaceutical legislation, there is another threat from the Bush Regime on the horizon. It appears that Congress is working on some new abortion legislation, which of course, provides for women*s rights. Well, our illegitimately elected sociopathic President Bush is at again catering to his NEOCON brethren in terms of vetoing the legislation to pacify primarily his troglodytic male and female followers. I*d love to see Bush actually cater to the majority of Americans and not his cirle of narrow-minded malcontents.
