A man fleeing a trooper died in a crash east of Hagerstown early Tuesday morning. A trooper on patrol pulled over a 1992 Honda Prelude just after 2 a.m. after the driver failed to stop for a stop sign. A check of the license tag showed the owner, 45-year-old Lewis Pfeltz Jr., was wanted for a parole violation and drug distribution. Before the trooper reached the driver’s door, Pfeltz took off. At one point during the chase, police say Pfeltz rammed the trooper’s cruiser. Pfeltz reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and the trooper lost sight of him. Moments later, a Washington County sheriff’s deputy came across Pfeltz’s car, which had just crashed at a curve on White Hall Road just south of I-70. State Police say Pfeltz lost control on the curve and his car went airborne before striking a tree. Rescue units responded, but Pfeltz was already dead. Source : wtopnews.com |
