Man charged with drug possession

The young Coral Gardens male resident who was apprehended by Grand Bahama Drug Enforcement Unit officers around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, after being found with four packages containing 6 oz of marijuana and another package with 20 grams of cocaine was formally charged in the Freeport Magistrate Court Thursday morning. Travis Johnson, 21, of Peridot Place, pleaded not guilty before Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Jones to charges of possessing a quantity of cocaine and marijuana with the intent to supply. Represented by Attorney K. Brian Hanna, Johnson was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill, until No-vember 1, 2007, when he will be brought back to court for trial, Chief Superintendent Basil Rahming, police press liaison officer, said in a press statement. Rahming also reported 29-year-old Phillip Coakley of Grenfell Avenue was arraigned before Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Jones yesterday on firearm and ammunition charges. Coakley had been arrested around 1:25 a.m. on Wednes-day, July 11, when Central Detective Unit officers pa-trolling on Bruce Avenue saw him acting suspiciously. During a subsequent search, he was found to be in possession of a black .45 Ruger semi-automatic pistol, loaded with six .45 bullets. Coakley, who was also represented by Attorney K. Brian Hanna, pleaded not guilty to the firearm and ammunition possession charges. His case was adjourned to the October 29 and he was granted bail in the amount of $6,000 with surety.
