A bill in the state Legislature would prevent the city of New Orleans and other local governments from collecting sales tax on drugs and medical devices administered by doctors in their offices. While drugs administered to patients in a doctor’s office are exempted from the state’s 4% sales tax, a loophole allows local governments to collect sales tax on them.
