The Federal Trade Commission soon might seek to determine whether manufacturers that produce generic versions of their brand-name drugs enhance or stifle industry competition and whether allowing these so-called “authorized generics” helps or hurts consumers in the long run. “Conducting such a study, requiring us to balance the effects of short-term benefits against long-term disincentives, will not be easy,” but should nonetheless be carried out, FTC Commissioner Jon Leibowitz said Thursday in a Source : accessmylibrary.com |
