KOLKATA: West Bengal is all set to get a bio-technology park and an agriculture park. The state government is holding talks with some private companies for jointly setting up the bio-technology park. At the inauguration of the 56th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress on Friday chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said the state government was seriously promoting drug manufacturing units in the state. “Three distinct zones have emerged in the state where drug manufacturing and healthcare-related products are being manufactured. Once these specialty parks come in we will have more opportunities. I would call upon the pharmaceutical companies to invest here,” Bhattacharjee said. Bhattacharjee said Uluberia, Behala and Kasba had emerged as the new drug-manufacturing zones in the state. The bio-technology park is likely to come up at the Rajarahat New Town and likely to cost Rs. 100 crore. For the agriculture park, the state government is scouting for land in Howrah. The parks will showcase ayurvedic, traditional and modern medicines. Focus will also be on research and development. The state government is also drafting a state drug policy which will take some more time to be tabled. “The state drug policy is going to be different from the national drug policy. We are trying to chalk out clear guideline for the industry,” MP Sujan Chakraborty said. More : timesofindia.indiatimes.com |
