AHS student admits drug possession


An Ardmore High School student was taken into juvenile detention Tuesday after he admitted to police and school officials he was in possession of marijuana.

The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. School officials told officers they had received a tip the 15-year-old was in possession of marijuana. When questioned about the accusations, the youth admitted he was in possession of the illegal drug.

The teen-ager showed police a yellow magic marker, which he said he hollowed out to make a hiding place for the drug. Both the marijuana and the carrying case were confiscated.

The youth was placed in temporary juvenile detention at the police department. He was later released to the custody of his parents pending charges in juvenile court.

Burning incense starts house fire

A burning incense stick is believed to be the cause of a fire at 315 A St. NW in Ardmore.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday. According to reports, the incense stick made contact with a piece of furniture. The damage was confined to one room, and no injuries were reported.

Fire Marshal Cary Williamson said the fire is considered accidental. Estimated loss and damages is $5,000.
